This year the traditional YEPP Summer School was hosted by Latvia resort town – Jurmala. The organizer of the event was Youth of Latvian People’s Party. In spite of summer format of the event, the program was very informative.
The record quantity of participants of Summer school – 76 young politicians from 32 countries – discussed the topic “Sustainable Development as Viable Post-Crisis Strategy”. Participant Presentations on Sustainable Development as Viable Post-Crisis Strategy were very useful and informative in this context. Special attention was drawn to Development Strategies in Latvia and EU. As experts were: the Chairman of the Bank of Latvia Ilmārs Rimšēvičs, Minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Latvia Aivis Ronis, the chairman of the strategic analysis commission of the president professor Roberts Ķīlis, professor of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga Morten Hansen, busineswoman and representative of the people’s movement “For a Good Latvia” Ieva Plaude-Rēlingere and the chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in the Baltic states Andreas Klein.
Also the Workshop on national organisations campaigning in 2009-2010 was held during which participants made presentations on National elections. Member of International Secretariat of Democratic Alliance Alisa Ruban made a report on first 100 Days After change of Power in Ukraine.
International Secretary of DemAlliance Anatolii Korol moderated the working group on YEPP campaigning during which participants discussed conduction of simultaneous actions in all states – YEPP members, in International Youth Day in order to spread our values and ideas and involve young people into politics.
Representatives of Democratic Alliance and Christian Democratic Youth Appeal (CDJA) discussed details of their mutual Summer School which will be held in August this year in Kyiv.
Surely, the event was not only limited by meetings and discussions - the organizers created all conditions for informal communication of participants and their acquaintance with culture and traditions of Latvia which was very hospitable for young European politicians.
