Protest against adoption of the Bill № 2450 "On Organization and Holding of Peaceful Meetings"

June 14th at 10 a.m. protest-mob against adoption of the Bill № 2450 "On Organization and Holding of Peaceful Meetings" will be held on Independence Square in Kyiv and also in all regional cities of Ukraine near regional state administrations. The participants of the event think that the bill doesn’t correspond to both the spirit of Article 39 of the Constitution of Ukraine, which guarantees the right for peaceful meetings and decisions of European Court of Human Rights on freedom of meetings.

The actions will be conducted in form of “Animations of people” when participants create figures which symbolize protest. Also in Kyiv after the protest-mob the piquet of the council of MPs will be conducted at 18/2 Grushevskogo str.

The organizers of the action are independent public organizations and students of different Higher educational establishments.

Coordinator – Vasyl Gatsko – 067-328-72-46

Coordinator of regional actions Andrii Sydorenko – 067-59-69-392

Additional information:

The Bill which was prepared for the second hearing in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine determines 4-day term of informing about the meeting (to date according to the Constitution the specific term is not determined),  what makes the reaction of the community to the events of public importance impossible in most cases. The term “spontaneous peaceful meeting” which was introduced in the bill is defined so unclearly that it promotes repeated incidents similar to those in Khakiv Gorky Park, when public activists tried to resist trees felling. The Bill contains other drawbacks.
