On August 12, the DA Zhytomyr Regional Branch organised a political performance as a part of the of the national youth protest campaign «Theatre of Political Drama». The action called “Sleep of the nation” was held in front of the entrance of Zhytomyr Regional State Administration.
Participants were playing a parody on Ukrainian politicians’ behaviour and deeds. Leading parts belonged to Yanakevych, Tymochenko and Yuchenko thus making their prototypes obvious to the spectators. The politicians were playing cards for money and dividing Ukrainian map into pieces. Ex facte being a game, the performance had some true to it. The show began with a little sketch of a regular work day in the parliament, and developed into a dream of a common person depicting the wanderings of his/her soul. Shevchenko’s verses harmoniously incorporated into the script added some literary flavour to the action and emphasized the unchangeable nature of Ukraine. The street show was aimed at the stimulation of public initiative, awakening the need of common people for a more active social position, their rights protection and respect from the state. A focal point of the campaign is the incapability of Ukrainian political management to provide harmonious and stable development of our state. The young people called people to “wake up” from a long unhealthy sleep and look straight in the politicians’ eyes. The politicians who are capable neither of keeping their promises nor of justifying people’s trust. The action was held within the framework of the national youth protest campaign “Theatre of Political Drama”.
Tomorrow a delegation of activists of the DA Zhytomyr Regional Branch will set off to Kyiv. In the capital these young people from ten regions of Ukraine will organise another performance – “Tarnished Reputation” – right at the entrance to the Ukrainian government building.
By December of 2008 the Democratic Alliance will have conducted about four more actions in Zhytomyr – all of them within the framework of the youth protest campaign «Theatre of Political Drama».

A national youth protest campaign “Theatre of Political Drama” set off in May, 2008, in Kyiv and in most regions of the country.
A focal point of the campaign is the incapability of Ukrainian political management to provide harmonious and stable development of our state.
Within the framework of the “Theatre...” the Democratic Alliance is planning to organisize 50 theatrical performances in the city squares of Ukraine during June-December, 2008.
